Celebrating
the 75th Anniversary of the BCATP
British Commonwealth
Air Training Plan

During the World War II years, 1939 thru
1945, Canada constructed over 150 training schools and airfields
across the country and this became known as the British Commonwealth
Air Training Plan (BCATP). At its peak these training facilities
graduated over 3000 aircrew a month. There was a huge mobilization
of personnel and resources to get the plan off the ground and
make it work on a day-to-day basis. This plan trained personnel
from all walks of life and from many Commonwealth countries
to produce pilots, navigators, air gunners, air bombers and
flight engineers. These airmen would be counted among the best-trained
in the world and became Canada’s principal contribution to victory
in World War II.
Vintage Wings of Canada, through their
Yellow
Wings program have again stepped into the breach
by initiating flights of aircraft of that era to various past
BCATP stations across Canada during the Anniversary year.
Flight Ontario is also contributing with
Flight Simulator Scenery for the BCATP stations. Approximately
115 of these stations have already been completed, with more
to come. At present these can be downloaded as freeware from
the Flight Ontario Downloads page:
